Health and Social interactions.
Social interaction has been proved to be medicinal. In addition to enhancing perceived well being, it has physical effects within the human body. Today, science knows that holistic health should become the bedrock for a balanced lifestyle. Human interaction is fundamental to your well being.
This principle is so powerful that dedication, care and friendship even lives through the confines of dementia. Yes, that is right, another study looked at the influence that time and devotion has within the lives of those who suffer from severe forgetfulness coupled to limited social and mental abilities. The warmth of a smile has the ability to melt through the darkest chains of suffering.²
Modern research proves that this concept goes far beyond mere emotional support. French CNRS teams, with support from the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), Paris-Sud University, the University of Montpellier, the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), and colleagues from Spain and Australia combined to study the effects of none contagious disease within the sociological framework.³
By inducing cancerous tumors within fruit flies, they compared three different groups. The primary group was exposed to isolation. Another group mixed healthy flies with diseases ones. Lastly, a group of cancer infected flies were placed together.
The results were amazing. Flies living along side those with the same disease had a longer life span. The tumors grew slower. Within the second group, things seemed to develop at normal speed. Interaction was strenuous at best and the sick flies got worse. Those living in isolation had the least hope. Their tumors developed the fastest too.
What would happen of we encouraged guests at our lifestyle centers to get involved in each others lives? Could they help cook, do hydro therapy or massages? Even helping out at worship would make them feel valuable. Social interaction is not only powerful friend. It is therapeutic. This is why we read,"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." KJV — Genesis 2:18
It appears to have been the case with the fruitflies.
