Ayurvedic lifestyle is a holistic lifestyle that advocates harmony with nature as well as meditation, intake or herbs that help prevent all kinds of diseases, regular massages, a special diet (mostly vegetarian and based on the body type) as well as yoga exercises.

In order to understand Ayurvedic lifestyle, we need to know what Ayurveda means.  The word Ayurveda is a combination of two different Sanskrit words.  The word ‘Ayush’ which stands for life and the word ‘Veda’ which means knowledge of.  A combination of the two means knowledge of life.

Ayurveda promotes a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature and is regarded as a manual for living.  The treatment is used for a variety of ailments which may have physical or mental causes and origins.

The Ayurvedic lifestyle is not about making drastic changes to a regular lifestyle.  It is about doing things in a controlled manner that will help improve the mind and the body.  It is about maintaining a balance between the Vata, Kapha and Pitta imbalances.

Each of these mind-body types is active during particular seasons.  It is about choosing the right type of foods to eat.  There is a need for the body to get plenty of fluids during warmer seasons.  Regular exercise and rest are also required for the body to remain active and fresh.  Heavy foods and alcohol are discouraged.  Oil massages for the body along with a bath and warm clothing are also a necessity.

It is important for the individual to seek expert guidance before embarking on an Ayurvedic lifestyle.  It is also important to seek immediate help if the individual develops severe health problems such as chest pain or respiratory difficulties.
